West Broadway in Vancouver in a dangerous place…that is if you are a child…or simply, a child at heart. On the corner of Balaclava you have Kidsbooks and just a couple doors down, one of my favourite clothing stores, Sparkle and Junebug and NOW, just in the next block, the Toybox is back! After a short absence due to construction, our whole family had the pleasure of attending the Grand Re-opening this past Saturday. It was a kids’ paradise. Lots of toys were available to test out and play with including all of the kids and my favourites like Lego, Playmobil, Groovy Girls, Hape, Calico Critters, Thomas the Tank Engine…the list goes on. The only brand they didn’t have which I adore is Schleich (hint, hint) but there is always time to expand the inventory.

Jakob was an official toy inspector and gave all of his top picks. I found out later that Jakob actually thought that he was ordering these items and kept asking when his packages were going to come. YIKES! I really wasn’t sure how to get around this, so I went back to the store a few days later and asked what we could do. They graciously and without hesitation offered to wrap up an item for me, gave me a little tag to address it and away I went. They totally understood. For me, customer service means so much more than the biggest sales or the lowest prices.

But the best part of the day, besides the cake, balloons and wheel where every purchase won a prize were the draws. If you purchased Playmobil or Calico Critters you were entered to win a set of the respective toy lines. Two years ago, we bought Ella a doll house and I asked our family to purchase Calico Critter sets to fill the house, so each year I buy a small set as a stocking stuffer.

And the kids have been wanting Playmobil for a couple years now, but the idea of it made me nervous. Where to start? Where to store? So this year I decided to do our Advent Calendar a little differently. I purchased the Playmobil Nativity Manger with Stable. I am going to put each piece into a 24 different bags, and that will be our Advent calendar…I am so excited! Needless to say, I qualified to enter the draw….and… I WON!!!! I NEVER WIN ANYTHING! I am so excited and my son is getting spoiled rotten this Christmas. C’est la vie!
Thank you so much Toybox for such a great time. Now, IT’S YOUR TURN TO WIN!
