    Hi, I’m Krista.

    Strategic communicator and storyteller.

I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.

I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
    oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.

A Day at the Zoo with Audrey

January 24, 2018

I have not taken my camera out since before Christmas…

Do you understand the consequence of this sentence? I didn’t even take my camera out ON Christmas!

When the landscape of your life is constantly changing it is difficult to know who you are, what you are doing or where you are going. Photography has lost it’s place in my life in a formal capacity, but this friends, is no excuse. It was left behind along with blogging. When things got busy, they were two of the first things to go but in 2018 I want to change this.

I suppose I stopped blogging, not for lack of things to say, but because I felt as though perfect pictures had to accompany the posts–perfect pictures, perfect words, perfect life but the name of this blog is not one PERFECT life. It is One Beautiful Life…because that is what this is. So I hope you will join me in 2018. Probably fewer, perhaps no sponsored post, possibly posts with no pictures and possibly posts with no words. Just life. This life. This One Beautiful Life.

Something else that was put to the wayside when busyness took over, was my time with Audrey.

Audrey: my baby girl.

Audrey makes our family complete and I could not possibly imagine US without her. Next month she will turn three. She is a firecracker who goes from 0 to 100 and back to 0 in a matter of seconds but she is as quick as a whip and as sharp as a tac. Her language exceeds her age and sometimes she will say things that make Ben and I look at each other and say, “Are two year olds supposed to know how to say that?!” Audrey is my girly girl. While Ella does appreciate the occasional glitter, it is most preferred on her Star Wars shirt and is most often comfortable in a hockey jersey. Audrey on the other hand, wants her nails painted, prefers her hair down, and the more bling, the better.

Audrey goes to daycare three days a week but Wednesdays are my days with Audrey. Often this has involved her playing whilst I clean or try to get a bit more work done, but today we needed to do something fun…so we went to the zoo.

That’s right. Edmonton has a zoo. It’s quaint to be sure but my animal lover and I had a great time.
