Recycling with Worms #Letsnotwastechallenge

April 4, 2017

I have a secret. A dark skeleton in my closet – the kind you only pull out on your wedding day (fortunately for me Youtube wasn’t a big deal when I got married and this was not yet on it). The truth is, I have always been a tree hugging crazy woman. Yup, before veggie burgers tasted good and when it was okay to pay a child pennies for two weeks of shooting. Cue 12 year old Krista.

Here is the problem though: now that I have kids, I can’t seem to get a handle on waste. Seriously, after every meal, leftover food. It was easy when they were younger and there was only one or two of them. I did the cloth diapers, made my own baby food and bought organic before it was cool but now that I have three kids, after every meal I want to scream, “DON’T YOU KNOW THERE ARE STARVING CHILDREN IN AFRICA!!!”
Any other parents know what I am talking about? What do you do?
SPUD.ca is having a #LetsNotWasteChallenge. They are giving out lots of tips but you need to show them that their tips are working. Share how you are using one of their tips and be entered to win a $5o gift card. Somebody wins every week so what are you waiting for? It’s easy. And hey, if I can share this ridiculously incriminating video, you can share a photo 🙂

HOW TO ENTER:

1) Make sure you’re following us and post an image of how you’re using our tips to cut down on food waste at home.

2) Add #LetsNotWasteChallenge.

3) Tag your 2 most waste-conscious friends to get them in on this contest. There’s a new winner each week, so enter as many times as you like!

PS- Yes, the video is me. Yes, SPUD gives me free groceries for sharing the SPUD love and yes, I will sign autographs.

That was awesome!! “Aha! This is where the worms come in!” You were really good in that! In Seattle we recycle paper, glass and plastic but we don’t recycle food scraps. The worm bin sounds efficient, I’m just not sure I could handle worms in my house. Even if they are in a bin! I plan to use coffee grounds, bananas and egg shells in my garden again this year though. Thank you for the reminder!
