The Float Pod Experience

February 29, 2016

While in Vancouver last week, I had the opportunity to try out the latest trend in wellness – a float pod at Puriin Spa in the Mariott hotel A friend of mine, here in Edmonton had tried it and loved it so I thought why not give it a try even though the idea of it was incredibly intimidating.

Naked, in water that is the same temperature as your skin filled with a thousand pounds of Epsom salts, in a small dark chamber. You hear nothing, you smell nothing you see nothing, you feel nothing. Crazy right? So why are they becoming so popular?

Because this hydrotherapy is can free you of stress, back pain, insomnia and many other ailments. Floatation therapy is a modern tool in meditation; it takes away all distractions both physical and mental. Think about lying down – you can feel gravity pulling at your muscles and joints and for many, this is very painful. Well in the float pod, there is no gravity, just the weightlessness of being in an adult sized womb.

So how was my experience? It was new and uncomfortable at first but once I settled in this tired momma was out like a light. That’s right, I fell asleep – it is just that relaxing. I thought I might be claustrophobic but I simply left a small light on and closed my eyes. It was euphoric. I encourage you to give it a try and if you are in the Vancouver area I suggest you try Puriin Spa at the Marriott Hotel. The staff were welcoming and warm and the ambiance calming.
