    Hi, I’m Krista.

    Strategic communicator and storyteller.

I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.

I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
    oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.

Happy 6th Birthday Jakob!

August 12, 2013

Dear Jakob,

There is no other child like you. Your inquisitive mind, decisive spirit and deep kindness amazes me everyday. I especially love watching you with younger children, including your sister. I love the way that you are kind to her, engage her and watch out for her. Never stop. You approach her with no reservations, no prejudice and no distaste – you will be one of her biggest cheerleaders,  I know it and I am grateful for it.

Just last week, you were telling me again how, when you grow up, you and Ella will get an apartment together. You will buy all the food you want to eat like cereal and pickles and you will have a job that will take you to Brazil.

You always have interesting things to say. Our friend, Kiko was just saying how you never just say in compliance, “yes, mom”. You always have a suggestion or idea. I love this about you, mostly because I know you get that from me. Your curiosity is easily aroused and you love to learn…hands on! You must do things on account of your will, not mine and you are so talented in so many areas. You are as fast as Sonic and you can draw anything. The pictures you draw from your imagination reveals a special gift. And you sing beautifully…just not for people or in front of people. This may change…in September 🙂

Today, we celebrate your 6th birthday. We are so thankful for you and are so proud of you.

Here are some snapshots from Jakob’s first kids-only birthday party that we had yesterday. He wanted Lego Starwars, even though he had never even seen the movie, nor played the video game (kids, sheesh.) The treehouse theatre presented Lego Starwars on the  big screen and we had a Darth Vader piñata which turned out much more cryptic and short lived than I had imaged.
