    Hi, I’m Krista.

    Strategic communicator and storyteller.

I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.

I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
    oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.

October.

October 1, 2012
While the first of September evokes the giddiness of a new school year, crisp nights and routine, October brings with it, Autumn in it’s golden glory, a season of thankfulness and a season of awareness. There was something in the air today. Autumn has settled in fully, the house is filled with the scent of spiced pumpkin, crackling fires and warm soup.

To be honest, life is busier than I would like it to be. It has been one of the greatest challenges in returning to “real” life. Ben has yet to find substantial employment which means that I have been working…and doing graduate studies….and making a home. And it is hard to remember that it has been just 2 months since we have been back and in that time have moved houses, countries, started at new schools, new jobs, created a new life and that I might not be able to do all the things that I want to be able to do.

There is lots to share and lots to be said.

This month, in particular is Down Syndrome Awareness month for the National Down Syndrome Society just south of the border. Many woman are joining together to blog 31 for 21: they will blog everyday for 31 days to raise awareness about Down Syndrome because that is half the battle.

This is one area, where as much as I want to join in, I am going to leave it up to them but I encourage you to read. To make yourself aware. To celebrate being different. And to be ever so grateful for every good and perfect gift that God brings into our lives.

Happy Autumn!

Down Syndrome Fact #1 Down Syndrome is not a disease. It is not contagious but the joy that my daughter has is….so WATCH OUT!
