Castle Rising, Sandringham and the Norfolk Coast

September 3, 2012
Summer was full to say the least. So when most people are taking the Labour Day weekend to go camping or have one last family Hurrah! before school starts, we will be re-organizing closets, writing papers, eating some ice cream and cleaning the house. Sounds like fun, no?

That’s alright. We had enough adventures this past year to do us until I can muster up the energy to pack another suitcase and in the meantime, we are happy to look back and remember some amazing experiences…like Castle Rising.

In the last week of being in England we took a day to head up north to the Norfolk Coast. On the way, we stopped at Castle Rising, Sandringham and Wells-by-the-sea. It was a beautiful drive as most are in England, winding through little villages and hamlets, past windmills and centuries old buildings. Castle rising itself is over 800 years old. Built in around 1140ad, this lone castle sits high upon the hill surrounded by what would have been a moat. The view was breath taking and the kids loved running through the narrow halls and climbing on the crumbling ruins.

From there we headed up to Sandringham, which is one of the Queen’s country estates. It is said that this is where they would spend Christmas and the men would do their hunting.

Finally, we drove up to the coast. It was beautiful! The beaches were silky sand and quaint little huts lined the beach.

So we aren’t up for going out on this Labour Day weekend, maybe you aren’t either. We always have Cambridge and all of its memories.

HAPPY LABOUR DAY!
