    Hi, I’m Krista.

    Strategic communicator and storyteller.

I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.

I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
    oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.

My Weekend In Pictures: Flying Canoes, Hockey, a Birthday and a Recital – Phew!

February 8, 2016

Just before I get into our weekend, I wanted to let you know that I have a little giveaway going on over on Instagram in honour of Audrey’s birthday. Be sure to check it out.

I don’t think we could have packed more into this weekend if we tried! It was another weekend of soaking in the Great White North. We kicked it off on Friday by going to the Canoe Volant Festival – translated Flying Canoe. The paths in the ravine, just down from our house were lit with beautiful laterns and drums echo’d through the woods. As we descended further we were greeted by bannock and tea in tipis, square dancing, art installations and warm fires. Once again, I have to admit that Edmonton has some pretty cool winter activities and this might have just been the coolest one so far.

On Saturday, Ben’s parent drove up which was a nice last minute surprise and after Jakob’s hockey practice we were able to go out…without kids…for the 2nd time in one month. Miracles do happen folks.

They also came up to help us celebrate Audrey’s birthday. Her actual birthday isn’t until Wednesday but in my books, you celebrate birthdays all month, not just on the day. So on Sunday I made her a birthday cake and Jakob helped me decorate it. I have to say, I am pretty sure she was a big fan…so much so that I had to dig it out of her mouth so she wouldn’t choke.

Look at me relinquishing control and letting Jakob help…

After a birthday lunch and cake, we all headed to Jakob’s hockey game. He was goalie and they won by a landslide 8 – 2.

Finally, after a quick costume change we headed to Jakob’s violin recital. He did wonderfully, even though violin is the bane of his existence these days. I suppose it is all part of growing up. I worry so much about him and yet he is such an amazing kid.

This week we are full swing into more birthday celebrations, valentines and getting ready for some much needed rest. I hope you all have a wonderful Monday and a very Happy Chinese New Year!
