Remember when I would post about the regular happenings of our lives? This one beautiful life, the everydayness, the small things? And what for really? Partly to keep in touch with loved ones that lived far away but also partly to inspire. Recently, there was a post going around entitled “Stop Instagramming Your Perfect Life”. There seems to be a judgement placed on people like Kelle Hampton, or dare I say, myself, for posting beautiful pictures of adorable children, accompanied by prose that makes everything seem like it should be all gum drops and lolly pops. But that’s not it at all, and I was so happy to find this post this week. Because really, I am not out to make you envious or jealous but rather, I want to inspire you, I want to share with you how freaking awesome it is to take your kids to the beach for a picnic, even if it is pb+j on white bread, or tell you about Ella’s fourth birthday party.
So, here it is. Soak it up because it’s all pretty awesome. Nothing superhuman or spectacular, just your run of the mill, party in a box with some pretty great people.
Ella has one love: George.
Maybe she loves him, because he thinks like she does. Isn’t that why all children love George? So who better to celebrate the prime of curiosity than Curious George himself?
If you recall last year Ella slept through her birthday celebrations at the London Aquarium. Not only that but Ella’s birthday was actually three weeks ago, but we were at my cousin’s wedding. I felt horrible about the idea of just letting another year slip by with no celebrations so I thought better late than never and headed to party bazaar.
Not too much Pinterest worthy here, except that this year, instead of hand out goody bags filled with sugar, we gave out books- Curious George and the Birthday Surprise In my opinion, it was the perfect favour (not too expensive either when you consider candy, toys and bags. Plus we only did one book per household).
We are just in the beginning stages of building family traditions (it’s hard when you’re constantly moving) but one that I think I will keep is homemade birthday cake…namely Beatty’s chocolate cake. If you are a faithful reader, you will know that I love this cake and it makes the PERFECT birthday cake.
Oh, and Ella loves the cake too. Thank you to all of our friends who came out and celebrated with us. It was a truly wonderful time and I am so glad that we took the time to have a party. Ella is one of a kind and she deserves it!…but I don’t have to tell you that 😉
Have a great Canada Day weekend everybody and keep Instagramming your awesome life!
