    Hi, I’m Krista.

    Strategic communicator and storyteller.

I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.

I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
    oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.

A Post About Ella….because I love her.

December 10, 2011
I feel like I have written this post a thousand times before
and yet God’s goodness never ceases to amaze me.
Tonight, as I prepared to go to bed, I slipped in to check on my sleeping babes.
Ella, of course was backwards in her bed, flopped over forwards in a position
that would make most people cringe.
And as I picked her up to put her right I stole some cuddles as I often do.
And, as I often am, I was struck by how big my baby girl is getting.
Remembering when she was just hours old, knowing in my heart,
though I had not been told, that you were different.
I remember holding you, endlessly, in the quiet of the night while the world slept,
vowing that I would love you all the same.
I knew that God made you, my little glow worm, just the way you were and
that our love would be stronger because of it.
I remember not knowing how long your time on earth would be,
fearing that God would take you away from me too soon
but promising to love you with all my heart for however long that was.
I remember your wide eyes as you took in the world
and your tiny squeaks letting me know you were still with me.
I remember trying to teach you to nurse,
calmly and with a patience that could have only been God-given,
as you became smaller and more fragile.
But you did it!
You learned and you grew
and now you are two and a half.
You walk and feed yourself,
you can drink out of a cup and blow your nose.
And you try with all your might to run and jump
and you sing.
