    Hi, I’m Krista.

    Strategic communicator and storyteller.

I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.

I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
    oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.

explore. create. love.

June 12, 2011
A huge thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes, condolences and encouragement!
I was talking to a friend and frequent commentor on the weekend and she was saying that she comments but I never reply. It’s true. And I am going to try and change that because I DO LOVE comments. While I post for me I put my posts on the worldwide web to be enjoyed by family, friends and anyone who needs a little inspiration or encouragement. I am grateful for all of you who read, comment and follow.
Now onto the weekend,
On Thursday, Jakob had his last day of preschool for the year and they ended with a trip to the airport. I think all of the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves! A huge thank you goes to his wonderful teachers who pour everything they have into those kids. Jakob loved it and learned so much.

Friday was GLORIOUS! I spent most of our day creating and walking around Three Hills, soaking up some much need vitamin D.

We live with another very creative family and are so thankful for them. I am thankful for the impressions they are leaving on Jakob and Ella’s hearts and for their kind, generous spirits.

Saturday followed as we drank tea at one of my most cherished spots in Three Hills, one that will be missed deeply.

We celebrated two birthdays

and witnessed man and woman come together before God to confess their love

We ended off the weekend leading worship for the last time at Prairie Tab. We have been so blessed to be a part of such an amazing church family and we pray God’s blessing on you. We pray you experience the freedom we have in Christ and a passion for living out each day as an act of Worship.
If you are still with me, I want to end this LONG post with a little story.
Last Wednesday, on Ella’s birthday, I told him that we were going to see the doctor. Jakob hasn’t had a check up for sometime and I wanted to make sure that everything checked out before we move to England. As I was getting Ella loaded into the car, he seemed rather upset…in a very grown up kind of way. Head hung low, quiet, and not in his regular “bring on the world” sort of way. I asked him what was wrong.
“I don’t want to go to the doctor,” he said.
I was taken back. It seemed as though he had be mulling over this for sometime and was genuinely concerned about what might happen at the doctor.
His stress was eased somewhat by a trip to Grammy’s on the way but it was a wake up call on how selfish I am with my stress. I elevate my stress as if no one could have it as bad as me, when really each of us become stressed by different things and whether we perceive it to be big or small we need to not only know how to manage our own stress, but respect others needs to exhale.
The book I am reading, Soul Custody: Choosing to Care for the One and Only You lists 10 stress busters. (Yes, I hear you all judging me in your head). The author lists things like,
– Practice the spiritual discipline of slowing down
– Seek to explore what is contributing to your stress
– Park in a parking spot that is furthest from your destination
– Think about how to incorporate humor into your life
– Decide to join the slow food movement
– Go to bed 30 minutes earlier
– Do something that gives you life everyday
– Choose one day a week to not check mail, voicemail, email, facebook, etc.
– Become less available to people’s demands and more available to choices that lead to caring for your soul
– Walk 30 minutes five days a week
So here is my question for you as we head into another week: What are your stress busters? Yoga? Photography? Reading? I’d love to know.
