    Hi, I’m Krista.

    Strategic communicator and storyteller.

I am the wife of a very talented musician who takes me around the world in pursuit of excellence. Mama to Jakob, Audrey and Ella, who just happens to have Down Syndrome.
And an aspiring disciple of Jesus, defender of the oppressed, writer, graphic designer and photographer.

I write and speak on navigating through the fog of life…you know, when things don’t go exactly as planned and am fuelled by a passion to amplify the voices of those on the margins…
    oh, and coffee…lots of coffee.

Guess who is home?!

January 5, 2013

There is no better way to start off a new year than having your family all back together again. For those of you that joined me while I was living in Cambridge, we have a dog. That’s right. He is a beautiful yellow (with a hint of brown) labrador retriever named Soren. He was our first child a year before Jakob was born and has taken life in stride with us ever since (making him 6 years old). When we went to England, dear friends of ours took him into their home for the year, treating him as their own. We were afraid he wouldn’t want to come back. Because our friends live in Manitoba (3 provinces away) it has been a challenge coordinating a time to drive one way or the other to reunite, but we received a text on New Year’s eve saying that our friend’s brother would be willing to drive him out. We were ecstatic! and on January 3rd, we were able to pick him up. So I suppose you’re wondering how it is going? Did he remember us?

I would say so. Jakob was SO excited to have his dog back – what boy wouldn’t be. They were best friends and still are. Ella was just 2 when we left for England and since then has had a love-hate relationship with dogs. Good from a distance but she doesn’t want them to touch her. Fair enough but she has warmed  up to him quite nicely, albeit she hates having her toes licked, which is inevitable as she spills the most food at the dinner table. Just like old times, he makes himself comfortable where I am – under the desk when I’m working and beside me on his bed, or on my bed….yes, we are those dog owners.

Things have also changed for the better. Jakob is now older and more responsible and it is heart-warming to watch him get Soren’s food or play with him in the yard. It’s a great way to start off the New Year!
